As in previous posting, i wrote some introduction to SSH and how to get connected to blue host server. This tutorial continue with, how to setup the ssh connection, and what you need to do to get started.

Login to your bluehost cpanel.. version 10. Scroll the way down to “system tool”.. and click the “SSH/shell access”. This will bring you to the telnet and secure ssh page.

Bluehost SSH

“For security reasons, shell access is not enabled by default. In order to activate shell access on your account, you will need to fax or mail a copy of your driver’s license, passport or other photo id to customer service. You can fax it to +1 (801) 765-1992 or you can submit your scanned photo ID directly to our helpdesk in the following form”

That is exactly what you need to do, to get approval to use the SSH connection. Not only bluehost, other hoster is doing the same. No anonymous user is allow to ssh or telnet to server and do what ever they want. Security come first.

If you need to remotely log into bluehost hosting server, probably you need to use SSH (Secure Shell) connection. SSH allows secure file transfer and remote logins over the internet. Your connection via SSH is encrypted allowing the secure connection. In this section you can manage your SSH keys to allow automation when logging in via SSH. Using public key authentication is an alternative to password authentication. Since the private key must be held to authenticate, it is virtually impossible to brute force.

Before you setup the ssh, make sure you have the ssh client progam ready. I would be recommending PuTTY, a telnet and ssh client program. Which have both windows and linux version available for free download. You can get the ssh client at this link: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

The SSH command is linux based. An example is:

pico : friendly, easy to use file editor
pico /home/burst/public_html/index.html : edit the index page for the user’s website.

cd : change directory · · cd /usr/local/apache : go to /usr/local/apache/ directory
cd ~ : go to your home directory
cd - : go to the last directory you were in
cd .. : go up a directory

I been research a little bit on how to setup ecommerce online store on bluehost. Previously i had experience setup online payment through paypal payment processing, and as well to worldpay payment processing. There is wide variety of payment processor that you can choose from, and each of them require certain thing that you need to apply to.

  1. Paypal payment processing
Not require SSL. Accept paypal and credit card through paypal. Only need to setup paypal account, verify your account using credit card or banking account(UK and US user). Then upgrade your account to permier account or merchant account. From paypal account, you can use the merchant tool provided to create “code” for item you selling. Easy setup for subscription service for customer as well. Very low processing fee per transaction.
  2. 2checkout payment processing
Not require SSL. A $45 one time setup fee. Accept credit card payment. A friendly support team, and reply my enquiry promptly. Very low processing fee per transaction. Better merchant protection from credit card frauds. Account balance can be route to your local bank, or request a cheque payment from 2CO.
  3. Worldpay
expensive startup fee. Only recommended to establish company, and to those that require maximum fraud protection system.
  4. Verisign payment processing
subscribe to their payment processing and start accept credit card payment. Reasonable startup fee. But require a few service addon for maximum security.
  5. 1shoppingcart ecommerce solution
Monthly cost of $26 per site. Shopping cart provided. Some miscelanous fee apply, for example gateway fees and statement fees.

Regardless of which solution you choose above, bluehost hosting can host your ecommerce website. Bluehost provide the SSL certificate, if you need one, request from support at bluehost, they will add it for you. Even if you need a dedicated SSL, then you can purchase directly from bluehost at the price of $45 per year, which is lower price in market. Some hoster selling at 120+ for the similar certificate.

If you need any helps or guide on setup ecommerce shopping store, you can post a comment and question at this posting. I will get them answer.

Bluehost is your next ecommerce hosting. More details here.
