It had been the third month this bluehost reviews blog had been running at bluehost’s server. And usually what i do is stored a copy at local PC, and download backup the mysql database through the phpmysql export interface. This is bit tedious, and require lots manual “select and backup” work almost every single week.
To make the backup routine easier, i have to go for bluehost system tools > backup utility. This features come with cpanel, and you can use this to fully backup your site content, cpanel setting, emails settings and also emails in your webmail. Everything will be packed and you can stored a copy at server, or download it to local pc. This full system backup is useful when your computer crashes etc.

Above is the screenshot of the bluehost system backup. And today what i want to do is just to download a backup copy of necessary files. From “select a system backup to download:”.. i choose daily… After clicking this, it will prompt me a file to download “daily.tar.gz”
.. downloaded and save the file locally. Done!! ya… the backup is done. You expecting more??

That all sounds great.. until an ‘error’ occurs.. you lose your public_html folder withe ALL you dev. and clients sites in it.. and tech support tells you that the ‘Trash Bin’ only works on the old File Manager.. not the new one.. and then they direct you to restore a ‘courtesy’ backup,.. only to find out that they have not been doing daily, weekly or monthly backups.. there’s not ONE!!! This ‘New’ File Manager deleted ALL of the files/folders in the public_html folder, except one file and one folder.. and no one knows why – when a subfolder was selected to delete! Also, I’ve been with Bluehost for years now.. have setup 10’s of sites through them,.. and to find this out,.. was truly dissappointing.

Suddenly, I lost all my files of my addon directories. The tech support guy not could find the problem, and any backup!!!. I have been with bluehost for 3 years and I have plus 30 sites with them. I was very satisfied with the service and support but this not acceptable.

no matter which hosting company you are with, its a must to maintain own copy of backup files at local PC.

Tadah!!!! Guess what???? This just happened to me today too. The funny thing is I did my first full backup only 1 hour before this happened. I now have to sit here and restore everything manually. I guess I am lucky that I had the back up, but it really seems like a HUGE coincidence that while doing the system backup all my folders in the public_html started to disappear 1 by 1. Gary was my tech guy and he patiently tried his best to help me through this. Just opened the full backup and it didn’t even finish fully… so now I am really out of luck *sigh*. Maybe doing the backup was actually the wrong thing to do. I hope they fix this problem, because like the rest of you, I was REALLY HAPPY with Bluehost until this mess up.
